All the schools we use offer a range of accommodation. There are single, twin and triple rooms and also a couple of larger rooms – with 6 and 8 beds which are used for the younger children. There are 2 larger dormitories in St Mary’s school which are used for groups.(for 9 and for 14 students) and these are very popular with younger children and groups.
Showers and toilets are shared, and there are plenty of these. The rooms have their own sinks and desks and plenty of space for storage. Boys and girls accommodation areas are completely separate and areas where girls are staying is off-limit to boys and visa versa. There are safety deposit boxes in the rooms. The rooms are a high standard and are clean and comfortable.
We do find some students want to be mixed with others speaking different languages and some want to be kept together in their groups. We try to give everyone what they want; usually this is possible if we have enough notice. UIC staff stay in each accommodation area to make sure the children are safe and supported through the night. Staff are thoroughly trained to respond to any emergancy that might happen.
Generally students do not return to their rooms during the day except for one short period before the evening activities.
