Our afternoon and evening activities are a central part of the course. As with the classes students have activities in three age groups (7-10/ 11-13 / 14+) and in those groups there are ‘teams’ ensuring a good nationality mix.
The schools we use have fantastic sports facilities and we are able to use these during the afternoons. There are always sports-based activities outside (for example volleyball and soccer) and in the sports centres (badminton, trampolining, basketball and so on). We also have many tennis courts and so are able to offer a really wide range of options. In some of the activities – for example tennis – we are able to arrange professional coaching. There are also swimming pools at the schools which are timetabled for use, we always have a qualified lifeguard on duty when using the pools. We do know from experience that not everyone is interested in sports and so we also offer a range of other activities in the afternoons including arts and crafts, cooking, badge making, computer time and making programmes for our very own radio station – UIC Radio. This is an internet station and your parents and family will be able to listen to what you’re doing form their homes. We offer optional visits to local shopping centres during this time and some further optional activities which have an additional charge (golf, horse-riding and visits to London musicals)
In the evenings we carry on with the range of activities but also offer other things which can be whole school activities, for example ‘hunt the flag’, discos, and talent shows.
The activity programme is balanced and a wonderful opportunity to meet students from other countries both to practice your English and to make friends. The staff who manage the activity programmes are very carefully chosen during the year many returning from previous years. These staff are selected for their ability to work with young students, many have specialist skills in sports, music and drama, computers and outdoor sports.
